EVERYBODY GETS IN
Last updated: March 2026
THE AFTERMATH DIARIES is committed to making my content accessible to everyone. Grief doesn't discriminate, and neither should access to grief support resources.
My Commitment
I strive to conform to the Web Content Accessibility GUIDElines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. These guidelines are developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and represent the internationally recognized standard for web accessibility.
I recognize that accessibility is an ongoing effort, and I am continually working to improve the experience for all users.
What I've Done
I have taken the following steps to ensure accessibility on this site:
- Semantic HTML: I use proper HTML elements (headings, lists, landmarks, etc.) to ensure content is structured in a meaningful way for screen readers and assistive technologies.
- Keyboard Navigation: All interactive elements on the site can be accessed and operated using a keyboard alone, without requiring a mouse.
- High Contrast: My color scheme maintains sufficient contrast ratios between text and background colors to ensure readability for users with low vision or color vision deficiencies.
- Alt Text: All meaningful images include descriptive alt text. Decorative images are marked appropriately so screen readers skip them.
- Readable Fonts: I use legible font sizes and typefaces, with the ability to resize text using browser controls without breaking the layout.
- Responsive Design: The site adapts to different screen sizes and devices, including mobile phones, tablets, and desktop computers.
- Focus Indicators: Visible focus indicators are provided for all interactive elements so keyboard users can track their position on the page.
- Link Purpose: Links are written to make sense out of context, so users navigating by links can understand where each link goes.
- No Auto-Play: I do not auto-play audio or video content. Users control when media plays.
- Form Labels: All form fields have associated labels so screen reader users know what information is being requested.
Known Limitations
Despite my best efforts, some areas of the site may not yet be fully accessible. Known limitations include:
- Some older content may not meet all accessibility standards and is being reviewed and updated on an ongoing basis.
- Third-party content (embedded videos, external widgets) may not be fully accessible, as we do not control those services.
- PDF documents linked from this site may not be fully screen-reader accessible. I am working to provide accessible alternatives.
